Sex During Pregnancy - Allie

Sex during pregnancy may be the very last thing on your mind, but doing the deed can be a beautiful adventure whilst knocked up. Giving you and your partner a chance to bond in ways you have never before.

Pregnancy is a big change for your body as your hormones shift, you may find that your desire comes and goes. Every women is different and experiences things differently to other women. In the First trimester some women can find they feel sluggish and extremely tired – forget about any romance. On the other hand other women can feel suddenly insatiable. Moving to the second trimester often brings amazing energy under the covers. By the third trimester couples get creative with positions working around that growing belly, inspiring new ways to get hands on.

Sex during pregnancy

Here is what you need to know about sex during pregnancy, so you feel safe and sexy.
Is it normal to have an increased sex drive?
Yes, it is very normal to have an increased sex drive during pregnancy. The changes of pregnancy tend to have a powerful effect on a women’s libido. Again pregnancy is different for every women, some may experience a supersized sex drive and others may find that their libido is lagging.

Feeling extra tingly down below? with the additional blood flow to the labia, clitoris and vagina can lead to more frequent or more intense orgasms. Not to mention the sexually free feeling as you no longer need to worry about birth control.

Throughout your pregnancy sex is very trial and error, it's about finding those positions that work for you and your partner. We have compiled a few of our favourite sex positions that are safe and steamy.

  • Side-Lying Position:

One of the most comfortable positions being pregnant is laying on your side, whether you are facing front-to-front or front-to-back. This keeps you from holding up the weight of your belly and keeps the weight off your back. It can also be worth placing a pillow between your knees if you find there is pressure on your lower back.

  • The Missionary Position:

Missionary can be a great position for you whilst pregnant as long as your partner keeps their weight off you by supporting themselves with their arms. If your partner likes having their hands free, try moving to the edge of the bed: Lay so that your bottom is at the edge of the bed and your legs are dangling down towards the floor. Whilst having your partner stand in front of you. Placing pillows under your back can help relieve any pressure. I would not recommend this position in the third trimester.

  • Cowgirl-Style Position:

This is a great position as it doesn’t put any pressure on your belly, whilst also enabling you to control the depth of penetration and clitoral stimulation. However this position may be a bit difficult to get into once your belly gets bigger.

Oral sex is also a great option whilst pregnant, it’s fun to relax and let your partner take over. Try laying on your side or sitting in a comfy chair as laying on your back can be uncomfortable. Also avoid oral sex where your partner blows air directly in your vagina, this can cause life-threatening air embolism for both you and your baby. Swallowing Semen is perfectly safe to do during pregnancy.

Pregnancy Sex

You may encounter some cramping during or after sex. If you do feel crampy when you climax it is not a sign of anything bad. There is a simple cause for this discomfort, as there is increased blood flow to the pelvic area during pregnancy. This combined with the usual congestion of the sexual organs during sex, causing normal contractions of the uterus after sex.
You could also be feeling discomfort if you are uncomfortable or anxious. This stress can trigger your body to tense up. Staying calm, relaxing with deep breathing can help your body feel more comfortable.

Keep in mind that unless directed otherwise by your OB it is completely safe to enjoy sex during the nine months.
